Application:1200mm wide belt conveyor carrying iron ore from the cone-crusher to the grinding circuit at a wet iron-ore processing plant in the eastern side of India.
Challenge:
- Frequent tripping owing to exaggerated belt-sway.
- Unscheduled shutdowns to clean accumulated spillage.
Solution:
- Control belt sway.
- Stop unscheduled shutdown.
- Eliminate damage to the belt and the structure
Result:
- Reduced belt sway from 80mm-100mm to 40mm-50mm.
- Tripping of belt reduced to zero from earlier 10 times a month.
- Debottlenecked conveyor capacity by 120,000 tons of iron ore annually [Equivalent to additional revenue opportunity 2 million USD annually at current iron ore prices].
- Belt life increased from 10 months to 13 months [Direct cash savings of ~20kUSD annually due to enhanced belt life and reduced need for spillage cleaning].
